Exclusive | Vance’s campaign accuses CNN of ‘ignoring its own scoop’ to ‘cover up’ Tim Walz’s military record

COLUMBUS, Oh. Vance’s campaign hit back at CNN on Sunday after a tense exchange the GOP vice president had with anchor Dana Bash over rival Tim Walz’s military record — accusing the reporter of ignoring her network’s reporting.

During the interview that aired Sunday morning, Bash defended Kamala Harris’ candidacy, pointing out that Walz submitted his retirement papers a month before the National Guard publicly announced plans to deploy to Iraq.

Walz, 60, is accused of withdrawing from a command role in his National Guard unit in 2005 to avoid deployment to active war zones in Iraq.

Vance, 39, was quick to hit back — pointing to CNN’s own reporting.

Vance’s campaign has now accused CNN of trying to obscure the facts in favor of Walz.

“CNN’s ignoring of its scoop from the night before shows just how far the mainstream media is willing to go to cover Kamala and the Democrats,” Team Vance National Press Secretary Taylor told The Post Sunday. Van Kirk.

“But voters aren’t stupid, and they’re sick and tired of the mainstream media lying to them.”

On Saturday night, CNN aired an interview with retired National Guard Sgt. Maj. Doug Julin — who was Walz’s superior and is a longtime critic of the Minnesota governor — alleged that Walz knew about his planned deployment to Iraq before applying for his honorable discharge.

“People don’t really understand the sequence of events here, – claimed Julin. “In 2005, we were informed that we were going to Iraq. Prepare your team. Gather your people together.â€

Julin described a February 2005 meeting, including National Guard commanding officers, at which Walz was present, where those plans were further discussed.

Julin then claimed that Walz informed him of his plans to run for Congress “immediately” after that meeting and with full knowledge of the plans to fight.

Walz filed paperwork saying he was exploring a run for Congress on February 5, 2005.
